Donkeys are herd animals and aren't meant to live a solitary life ,so they definitely need a companion, preferably another donkey.

If you are looking for just a pet, then a couple of geldings are a good choice. They don't have breeding on their minds and make wonderful pets.

Miniature donkeys are not the right choice for a guard animal. They simply aren't large enough. Momma donkeys are fierce protectors of their foals, but don't stand a chance against a pack of dogs or coyotes.

All our fall babies are here...the last one was born 11/15/08. Four girls and one boy. We are really excited with the foals Sparky is throwing.

Ringo has done very well in halter and he is trained very well in in-hand trail. He is also green broke to drive. He is a very sweet donkey and loves to be handled. We simply don't have the time any more to put into working with him and don't want to just turn him out in the pasture. He would make someone an excellent pet but he would need a companion, preferably another gelding.

He was really happy Beauty had a boy so he would have someone to play with. He will make someone a wonderful pet. He won't be very big when he matures.
Smoky and Storm Chaser would make a great pair for someone!!

Miss Alred had her foal!! 10/10/07 @ 6:30 A.M......we put her under the barn cam and stayed awake most of the night thinking she would foal at any moment. Then around six she finally laid down and got to work. He was born at 6:30 with some help from Frank. He is a dark sorrel with a very tiny star. Well, he has at least a dozen white hairs!! He was twenty inches tall with his booties on. He was scooting right under his mommas stomach right after he was born.

Belle had this little guy between mine and Frank's shifts. She timed it just right to be before my 4:00 A.M. trip to the barn. I had to run back to the house to let Frank know that the baby had arrived...I didn't even take the time to see what the gender was. Our barn cam has bitten the dust so we are taking turns checking on the jennets in the maternity barn.
He is a fine little jack....very sweet and friendly, and he's gorgeous.
He will be for sale later on when he is weaned.

This baby girl is a doll baby...she is in your face and wants to stay with you but her Mom has other ideas. She is going to be a tank...she is heavy boned and looks to be nice and straight. She is full of personality too.
We think she is definitely show quality.
Her two full brothers have both won numerous blue ribbons .
And they have both done very well in performance classes. We are hoping she will do the same.
Penelope's full brother, Strike It Rich placed third in his halter class and first in pre-green trail at the 2008 Nationals in Waco, TX! Congratulations SiSu and Barbara!!.....and a good job Karen!!

Anna is still very friendly....when we take our 2 yr. old grandson in the pasture she always comes right up to him. Most of the other yearlings scatter when they see him running around, but Anna stands quietly for Ty to love on her.

Miss Alred is a dark red jennet that will be an outstanding addition to our herd. She is 28.5" at a year old and has that 'look at me' attitude. Her full sister, Beacon, was NE State Fair Reserve Champion and was 1st in the Mini-Jennets Class at the MN State Show as a yearling.
Miss Alred has really matured into a fine jennet and has been bred to Short Assets Fireplug for a 2006 foal. We will be anxiously awaiting this foal.
Update!!!! Miss Alred had a tiny red jack!!!! Exactly one year from her first breeding!!
His name is SparksaFire and he was 19.5" when he was a few hours old. He is wide and he is straight! I think he is going to have any thing he wants around here!! See the new arrival page to see more photos of him.

Miss Alred has been bred to Short Assets Stars War for an October, 2007 foal. He was 2004 NMDA National Champion Jack, 2004 NMDA Best of Breed and he was the 2004 NMDA Coon Jumping Champion!

This donkey will follow you where ever you go...she is definitely a people donkey. Marcie has great back legs and a nice wide, round butt. She has a nice feminine head and a great top line. Her front legs aren't as straight as I would like but I think she will get better as she matures.
